As a householder who is currently going through the process of having a new bathroom fitted, I share the pain of those who are thinking of upgrading their bathroom and if I had realised the impact on my life in terms of cost and hassle then I would probably have thought twice before embarking on such a project.
I could never have realised just how much this was going to cost me until the quotes started rolling in – after all how expensive can a new toilet and bath be?
But now that I am thousands of pounds lighter, I can start to understand why people do take the decision to whip out the cordless power tools and do the bathroom themselves, despite the difficulties involved.
A new bathroom is way out of my skill set and I would say to think carefully before trying to do such a project yourself as many specialist skills are needed such as plumbing, wiring and tiling. Firstly there is the safety aspect, as you could be putting your lives in danger if the plumbing and wiring are not done correctly, but there is also the way the finished product looks.
Tiling which is sloppy or grouting which is done badly makes the whole bathroom look as if it has been done on the cheap – why pay hundreds for a new suite if the finishing touches look shoddy?
