Do It Yourself

As a householder who is currently going through the process of having a new bathroom fitted, I share the pain of those who are thinking of upgrading their bathroom and if I had realised the impact on my life in terms of cost and hassle then I would probably have thought twice before embarking on such a project.

I could never have realised just how much this was going to cost me until the quotes started rolling in – after all how expensive can a new toilet and bath be?

But now that I am thousands of pounds lighter, I can start to understand why people do take the decision to whip out the cordless power tools and do the bathroom themselves, despite the difficulties involved. (more...)

The Best Hand Dryers for You

Electric devices that are used in bathrooms to dry hands are known are hand dryers. Hand dryers are mostly found in public washrooms. Some of them require the user to press a button while others have an infrared sensor that automatically detects the hands of the user.

In comparison to paper towels, hand dryers are less expensive since that they are relatively cheap and do not require much maintenance. Hand dryers are more environmentally friendly as well. However, for some reason, many people just do not like using hand dryers. They prefer paper towels. But paper towels are not always cost-effective especially for public vicinities such as movie theaters with busy restrooms. Hand dryers are not only cost-effective but they also prevent waste. It is a known fact that people often pull more than one paper towels from the dispenser. In most cases, the extra paper towels are just thrown away. Hand dryers also require less work. There is no need to fill dispensers or pick up litter. Employees do not have to empty trash bins nor do they have to go through the horrors of fixing a stoppage as a result of paper towels thrown in sinks or toilets.

Now that you are convinced that hand dryers are indeed a better option in comparison to paper towers, you may be wondering which hand dryers are the best. Well, if you are looking for efficiency and affordability, Direct Hand Dryers are the hand dryers for you. Direct hand dryers are innovative and perfect for any modern establishment. The different models have been specially designed to meet any budget, specification or requirement. (more...)

Avoiding Damp Bathrooms

Bathrooms are very sensitive rooms in our homes and must be taken care of at all times. They handle loads of wet moments, actually more than any other room because that is from where residents take their shower. If the drainage system is slow or faulty, it does not help the situation any bit. This situation can be dangerous at times as it can cause bad odors coming from the bathroom, and if not properly taken care of diseases cannot be ruled out.

To avoid damp situations, it is advisable for users of the room to drain any remnant water from their shower. Stagnant water left in the bathroom can easily make way to the walls via slight cracks which may not be easily visible to human. It is easy for moisture to crawl into the inner walls and cause cracks or rotting, posing a threat to residents of the home.

Because the bathroom is not open to public and it may not be seen by visitors, it sometimes remains neglected in terms of finishing. Most people will leave it unattended without proper damp proofing, meaning that water will splash the walls and penetrate. This is gross because just a little plaster with a damp proof material can save the day. The cost of repairing a wall can be more costly than the cost of applying good finish to the floor and walls of the bathroom. (more...)

Home Improvements Can Really Set Your House Apart

When we think about redecorating a new house or the one we have lived in for a while, we often want a complete change of style and colour, or what's commonly referred to these days as a "makeover", i.e. a transformation. We want fresh ideas and inspiration.

Advice on homes and decor can be obtained from books and magazines, and also from a relevant online search and browse. The bathroom though, is a specialised kind of room where, somewhat like the kitchen, form and function should go hand in hand.

Function though, should probably be considered first when thinking about improving your bathroom. If you are limited for space you might eschew the bath in favour of an efficient shower which can save money by using less water, reducing consumption of both water and the energy required to heat it.
